Oct. 12 Blog

Last week, NASA fired a rocket at the moon that was intended to try and determine whether there is water located beneath the surface.

Considering the economic climate, is this an appropriate use of funds? Is it important to keep NASA working and reaching to discover new things, or is this a waste of taxpayer dollars? (due 10/16)

  1. I think that it's good to fund a company that is trying to make things better and make new discoveries. It is important to fund things or groups that are trying to construct new ideas of making something better. Anything that has to do with improving our world or creating a distinct veiw is significance because of what the idea could do or what it could create. It's all worth it and might be helpful in the end.

  2. In my opinion I believe that this will help the U.S. in the long run. But for right now I dont think it is nessacary because oue economy is already strugling and we could be putting that money towards something else that would benifit that world right now. There are so many people that are struggling for there lives and homes but were not really concerned about them right now. So yes I believe that this would be worth something some day but right now its not worth it.

  3. I believe that it is important for NASA to keep trying to discover things. However, I do not believe that shooting a rocket at the moon is a good use of money. This will help us discover things about the moon, but what is the cost? We must also think about what the world will receive in return. This most likely cost a vast amount of money, so what will we get out of it? I think it is good that NASA is pushing to discover new things, but we should keep in mind what it will cost us and if it's worth the effort.

  4. What NASA is trying to do right now seems to make little sense right now. Sure there may be or have been water on the moon at one point in time, but as what we see right now, nothing. I'm sure NASA will be able to make use of the information that they will gather to better benefit us in the future. Although crash landing on the moon with a $79 million craft doesn't seem the brightest, I hope it does give useful information.

  5. It was a good idea for NASA to come up with, but wasting all that money was probably no the best idea. With the economy the way it is right now I don't think that we should be worrying about whether or not we should launch a rocket into the moon to see if there is water beneath the surface. NASA should have waited to do that later and done something else with the money.

  6. I think that this is a total waste of a our money. This does not seem necessary and I think we could be using our money a lot more intelligently. We could be spending that money on better safety in our country, in our soldiers overseas, and the healthcare reform. This moon problem should be the last thing on our list.

  7. I think economically that this is an awful idea. The U.S. should be spending their money on more useful things instead of science experiments. We are in such an economic disaster at the moment that a new NASA mission is completely irrelevant. However, from a more scientific view, I think it is a great idea. I think it's wonderful that scientists at NASA are trying to do something to better the scientific world and convey their thoughts and ideas.

  8. i think this is a horrible idea! the research these scientists are doing is 100% necessary but we should be waiting until the economy is in a better position to be spending our tax paying dollars. if not stopping the research we should at least slow the process so that we can still research but pay less.

  9. I honestly think this is a waste of time, money, and resources. Why bother knowing if there is water on the moon? It is not like we will be living there anytime in the future. The moon is a key part to this planets climate and shooting a rocket at it is not a very intelligent idea. Why the U.S. and other nations pressured them not to do this is beyond me.

  10. I dont think that right now is the right time to be spending our money on NASA equiment. Yes, it is a good idea and important but right now our world has more improtant things and until those are fixed and back to normal than i think we should wait to spend our money on something that will be there forever. But I do think that when our economy gets better than we should work more with NASA and figuring out new things.

  11. I think NASA, in this mission, along with it's many others is extremely vital to our world. If we cannot convince people to stop killing this planet, someday we may need help from the solar system. I think this particular project of looking for water is an important one. I will admit that NASA has had a few projects that have made little sense to me and have made me wonder why tax dollars go to them. However, there are also many missions to which extremely important knowledge has been gained. I think it's kind of a fifty-fifty with NASA. But I believe it's like that for a lot of the tax projects in America today. Through it all though, i think it is worth it. Look at our advancements so far...

  12. I think the money used to fire a rocket at the moon is a complete waste of money. I highly doubt that very many taxpayers really want to pay money to figure out if there is water on the moon. It has no effect on our lives. I don't see any advantages of paying taxes to know what is happening and has happened on the moon. It is an interesting topic, but not something that I would personally care to pay to learn about.

  13. I believe that what NASA is doing is good for the country. We put away an amount of money for the space program. If we stopped the funding then we would put a lot of people out of a job. NASA has a lot of people working for it. If we stop the funding then we are just creating a problem that we are trying to stop. Also when you think of the U.S. Space program you think of the first man on the moon. Well, we discover a lot in space. We need to keep that reputation. I love hearing about what new discovers that NASA made. So the rocket was a good idea.

  14. I believe that this is a waste of money. There are homeless people on the streets due to the recession and NASA wants to shoot the moon just to find money? Why can't this money be used on something that's worth it? This just doesn't make sense to me.

  15. I belive tha NASA is not waisting our our money because the discoveries that are made all the time. the new discoveries the NASA finds do not just help out our country but the help scientist all over the world and this can inturn help the problems we have on our planet such as the enviromental isuues and disaters accruing. NASA is also vital to our survival. The last thing is NASA employs meean scientist and without NASA thses scientist and other workers would have to find other jobs.

  16. I don't think this is a bad decision. The people have spent their time researching and finding important information to build this rocket. Especially if we find ice or water on the moon it could change so many things in our society. NASA workers are there to research and discover. So, they are simply doing their job by firing this rocket at the moon. I also agree with what others are saying. During our economic hardships right now, it may not be the best thing to do. However, this could be a huge thing and turn out to be money-well spent.

  17. I think that NASA for the most part is a complete waste of taxpayer's dollars. How is firing a rocket at the moon going to figure out if there is water on it. The money for NASA should be used to
    benefit the America people.

  18. I believe that using taxpayers money for NASA is a waste of money right now. NASA consumes ridiculous amounts of money and somehow come up with no definable progress. Maybe NASA was a great thing back in the Space Race but now it is old, obsolete, and wasteful. If the money that NASA takes was given to help out the economy I believe that we wouldnt even have a recession.
