It has been reported that the Honda plant in Greensburg will be producing Civics that are intended to be sold in Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean and Guam.

Should we take this as a sign that the American economy and automotive industry have recovered and are better able to compete worldwide, or is this just further proof that Americans are not confident about things? Are these vehicles being exported because there is a market for them abroad, or because they simply will not sell here in America? (due 9/25)

I believe that because of the economy in the U.S. that the cars will not sell as well. I think that theyare selling to Mexico, Latin American, Caribbean and Guam is because they wont be able to sell as many here that they want too. It is a better expeirence also to see how they will sell there. We really dont know how they will see there till we try and the more we sell the better. I think that this is a good idea for them to think of considering todays economy here.
ReplyDeleteI don’t believe that this is a sign the auto industry is recovering. I actually think this is bad for our economy. I believe this because this is only one company that is reportedly selling to other countries. This is also bad because if they are selling to other countries, then they might believe that our people wont buy them. This is probably why they are spending more money in order to sell to places that they believe will buy them. We need more spending within the country in order to be able to recover from this falling economy.
ReplyDeleteI think that since the recent recession, auto sales have not improved at all, which leaves the auto industry to start making cars to be sold in Mexico, Latin America, etc. Not too many people are buying cars, so why should we sell them here? In my opinion, it is a good idea to sell them to other countries, because either way the economy isn't being helped. However, this does not mean the economy in Mexico and South America is not bad also. The people who live there may not buy enough cars, and the sales may just be the same. A new approach must be made to help the economy.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen pictures of what Mexico, Latin America, etc. look like. They do not look so good. If they have cars then they are like the older cars, that get 5 miles to the gallon. And the fact that we are selling our cars, which we do not even buy here, means that our economy is not doing that good. You hear on the news that the recession is over, but is it really for all departments. The auto industry has not done good at all for a long time and now we can see that. If we do not buy cars here for different reasons: price, the need for one, etc, then what makes people think that they are going to sell their cars to countries that are not like us at all. We have more money per person and each person can buy their own car if they wanted. The people of Mexico, Latin America, etc, do not have the money to buy a car. Most families do not make enough even to satisfy their own families needs.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this is signs toward an improving economy. If the Honda plant is starting to sell to the foreign market they must be doing something right. Maybe right now its Latin America, then tomarrow it could be South America.
ReplyDeleteI think this means that the economy is improving. Obviously there is still a long way to go, but we are moving in the right direction. This is going to bring in revenue for the country which will help boost the economy. This could lead to better things if they are happy with our products, we might be able to start dealing with other countries. That would obviously help our struggling economy greatly.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is a good thing because it means American cars are being purchased by other people outside of the country. This has just started and to me it means that we are making a profit in our terrible economy. If the US needs to be branching out to gain more of the money back that we have lost. If we don’t the US will probably stay in this financial deficit.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the reason the the Honda exporting there cars is because after the cash for clunker had ended they decided that cars wont sell as they did during cash for clunkers. So Honda decided to make up for that, they will sell there cars in other countires that do have a good market for car selling. I do believe though that the samller compact cars are much more selling because of fuel effencieny and people wanting to save money on gas.
ReplyDeleteOur economy is most likely improving if we can sell to different countries. Although, this could be Honda's last resort for money simply because of Americans lack of money during the recession.
ReplyDeleteOur economy is most likely growing but the civic doesn't seem to be a "hot" car in America this is probably why the car is being sold in Mexico, the Caribbean, and other Latin American countries. This also could be due to the fact that many Americans aren't spending due to the possibility of another recession and the continued lack of cash flow through the hands of normal middle class American families.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that this is sign of the American economy recovering. I believe the reason they are doing this is due to the cars not being sold here. So, therefore, they are sending them other places where they can be sold and money can be made. However, I don't really know if people in Latin America, Mexico, the Carribean, and Guam will buy the car either. If money is made off of the car it could potentially help the automotive industry. But, as of right now I believe this decision is just a strategy made to sell the cars and make money off of them.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that this is a sign that the economy is getting better. I think the only reason they are doing this is because the cars arent selling here so they are sending them to other places hping they will sell better there. But I believe that the cars won't sell in Latin America, Mexico, and the Carribean, and Guam because if we dont buy them here they wont buy them there. I think that thw car industry is just deperate for money.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the automotive industry is starting to both recover and gain ground at the same time. With that in mind, I think that because they are shipping cars to foreign countries that they have some money to spend and to play with. I'm sure that if they weren't recovering, they wouldn't "try" to sell cars somewhere else other than Indiana or the United States. If the plant does well, then I'm sure they will be able to recover better than before and make the company more worldwide.
ReplyDeleteThe vehicles that are being exported to Mexico will probably make more money sold there. These vehicles would probably sell good in America. But, the Hondas will sell a lot better in Mexico becuase have a higher demand for cars as their population grow.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the vehicles are just not selling well here in america. The truth is that our economy is not in the best place right now and that in return puts a strain on the consumer products that we americans generally flock to. One such as the car dealerships. A new car is a luxury and one that was eliminated when the economy started to head south. I believe that the car manuafacters are simply looking for profit else where until americans are ready to buy again.
ReplyDeleteI think this shows that our country is pannicking and things aren't getting better. Mexico is not in any better situation than we are. We know that because most of their people are coming to our country. I believe they are just trying to get an easy way out and sell to a country like Mexico
