August 31 Blog Question

During these difficult economic times, when many people are out of work, it is a fairly common thing to see families sacrificing. Many are sacrificing luxuries and wants, while others have to "tighten their belts" on things that are traditionally seen as needs as well. Because of this, a controversy has arisen over the cost of Catholic education. Many say that they are willing to sacrifice what they need to in order to give their children this type of faith-based education. However, others look at the situation and feel like these people are doing the wrong thing by sacrificing basic needs and paying for education when it is available through the public realm at no additional cost to the parent. The question, then, is this: where do you stand? Is the education that you are receiving a fair trade for the hardships that might be endured, or are the local public schools a better option when faced wth having to go without some things at home? 1. I think that sacrificing at home is well worth the education that we get at Roncalli. I know this because I have experienced a public school. I attended Perry Meridian Middle School for sixth through 8th Grade. It was deffinatly a change for me and I noticed for myself that it was not the challenge of education that you get here. I would sit out of the classroom and teach myself because I already learned the material they were learning. Also I love the Catholic School Enviorment. I feel safer in class and feel more at home here, and feel like if you asked a teacher for anything they will do there best to help. At Perry I could not say the same. So I believe that Sacrificing to go to a Catholic School is well worth it.

  2. I believe that the sacrifice at home to send a person to a catholic school is well worth it. I belive this because the person is recieving better education about there religion and there more aware to what there religon teaches. There is also a problem if you are sacrificing to much then that is when I believe that you should send the student to a public school. It's not worth sacrifing the basic needs and things you must have than pay for a catholic school. For example if a person is sending there child to a catholic school and they cant pay there electricty bill this is when i believe that you shuold send your student to a public school. So I believe that you should send your child to a public school if the sacrifices do not effect your basic needs to live.

  3. I believe sacrificing basic needs at home to send your child to catholic school is worth it. Because if you think about it, your child is getting a better education at a catholic school and will most likely go farther in life. I am not saying that if you go public school you will not do well later on but in a catholic school the kids usually want to do better and the teachers want the kids to do better. In a catholic school the teachers will take the time to sit down with you to help you because it is in a smaller environment than a public school. So going to a catholic school and paying the tuition is worth it for your child to get a better education.

  4. I believe this is an increadibly wise and well thought out plan. Public school and catolic school are two different things. At public schools, you only learn things that the government requires you to know. At catholic school however, children learn more than what is neaded. You learn about God and his will for humanity. I think this is essential for all children to know, even if it comes at a great prise. And i also think that the parents who do such things for the sake of thier children are brave people who know what is right for thier children and thier children's future.

  5. I think that sacrificing for this education is a smart move, concidering that parents are giving up things to better their childrens education. The partents that send their kids to Roncalli do give up and sacrifice a lot for them, which will help their kids in the future with a wide and strong education. The education that will get their child into a better college and will help them more in life. I'm not saying that public schools are bad because what you put into it is what you get out of it, but you have more motivation when you know how much your parents sacrifice for you to just go to school everyday and be in a safe environment. Roncalli is a better choice and is worth it.

  6. I feel that a Catholic education is very good in the times today. Even though I am not a Catholic I still feel at home at Roncalli. It isn't just the religious aspect of the school; it is the fact that everyone is close and feels like a family. If families have to cut back and sacrifice things to send their kids to a Catholic school I feel like it is a wise choice. I have gone to a Catholic school for my entire life and it has taught me valuable life lessons such as how to behave in Mass and how to relate with all types of people. I wouldn’t really know too much about going to a public school so my opinion would be biased but from what I have heard it is nothing like Roncalli or any other Catholic High School.

  7. I think that making the sacrifices for your child to go to a catholic school is a good choice. I think this because not only does your child learn more about the catholic religion but your child also gets to experience their high school life in a great environment. I have never gone to a public school but from what I have heard sometimes I just think how lucky I am to have the privledge to go to a catholic high school. I believe that your child will grow up to be a different person than a child who goes to a public school just because of the influences a catholic school has on a child. At Roncalli you feel as if you are one big family and you don't really have to worry about getting made fun of or in fights as much as public schools. Also at a catholic school there is also someone you can talk to if you need help with anything. So even though it may be tough to make the sacrifices I think later you will realize it was worth it.

  8. In my opinion, sending your child to a catholic school is totally worth it. Most public schools don't have the kind of family atmosphere that catholic schools have. Even though sacrifices are being made within your family at home, you will always have your second "family" to lean on when you go to school each day. I know that my time at Roncalli has been the happiest of my entire life. I know a few parents that have several jobs to put their children through catholic school, and I can see myself doing that for my own children in the future. The education is even better than that of the public school, which has been proven by the recent ACT scores of Roncalli seniors. In the end, catholic school proves to be a wise choice.

  9. Going to a private school is well worth the sacrifice during these tough times. Some kids that dont get the opportunity to go to a private school may not take school as serious as others. I have never experienced a public school but it would seem that private schools definately stress accademics at a higher level. Although the expenses are high, i believe that it is worth sacrificing your kids to have the opportunity to go to a private school.

  10. I believe that a Catholic education is a better education. The difference between public schools and private schools are very different along with the grading scale. The academic grading scale is at a much higher level with the private schools. Now with that in mind, you are able to get into a better college which then in turn allows you get a higher paying job.

  11. I think that going to a catholic school is a very lucky thing. This is because it allows you to get a higher education and in turn get inot a better college. This oppurtunity also comes wth risks to families. Having to pay thousands of dollars to go to a school that provides a faith based education and higher standard of learning is well worth the money even if it causes the families a little bit of issues when it comes to money.

  12. I think that making sacrifices to send your children to a Catholic school is well worth it. One of the main reasons why I believe this is because when you attend a Catholic school, you have a real feeling of belonging to a community within a community. The atmosphere of a Catholic school is different. Teachers tend to be closer to their students because of the smaller classes. You know that the teachers are dedicated to what they teach you because they don't get paid as much as they would at a public school. So, it is almost that the teachers are making a sacrifice to teach at a Catholic school. Knowing this, you get the feeling that they really care about teaching you and helping you learn. I've never attended a public school and I don't think that I would be able to survive at a public school. My opinion is that the people, morals, and academics are different then at a private school. The emphasis on Catholic education, academic excellence, and the supportive environment is reason enough for my parents to send me to a Catholic school. I know that I would do the same for my children in the future, even if I would have to make sacrifices to do so.

  13. I believe that making sacrifices at home in order to allow your child to attend a Catholic Highschool is completely worth it. I personally think this because I attended K-8 at Franklin Township schools. The environments are totally different. Public schools are places where the staff don't really care if you pass or fail, if you attend classes, you don't learn things for weeks in some cases, and it can be a very dangerous place, especially with fights almost daily. At a Catholic School your always learning something, it is a very safe and caring school, and I feel like the teachers genuinely care about us. The education is definitly better at a Catholic school vs. a public school. At a Catholic school you learn a variety of things like humanity, humility, sacrifice, and you learn more about your faith. Plus Catholic schools are going to help us to succeed further in life, be more prepared for life, and all around help us later down the road.

  14. I have to been to both catholic and public schools and i have noticed a huge diffenence. not so much a difference in the dedication of the teachers but in the students. when i went to shelbyville high school most of the kids didn't do their homework and some even wanted to drop out. I haven't seen one fight at Roncalli where as i saw multiple fights at Shelbyville. My consensus on this issue is that the education and the enviorment that you find in a private school is worth the extra cost compared to the education and enviorment in a public school. even if you struggle with the tuition it is still worth it.

  15. I believe that sacraficing at home is not better than getting a catholic eduation. You can get the exact same eduation that you are getting at a catholic high school at a public high school. For example, here at Roncalli we have one class for electonics, and if you ask anybody its a blow off class(no affence to Mr. Baker). But at some public high schools, they have a whole department dedicated to electronics. And if your major is in electonics, like mine, then you want more than just one class. Also a girl transfered to here last year, she was only here for a little bit, but she went to Columbus North. While at Columbus North she took 2 years of Japanese, so at a public school you can have more classes to take. But for sacraficing at home, if somebody does not get all the correct needs they are getting then they are being deprived.

  16. I think that parents should save their money if they are suffering that bad in this economy. They would probably want to save their money for college or other important payments that need to be paid. But, some parents would rather send their kid to a Catholic school so they have better morals and may learn better. But if the parents can not afford private school tuition then they should probably save the money.

  17. I think the private school education is worth the sacrifices. I think that schools like Roncalli prepare their students for life after high school. Private schools are always concentrated on school and pushing the students to reach their full potential, which teaches the student to work hard to reach their goals. Private schools are very focused on always providing the best possible education so the students and guardians are not wasting their money.

  18. I believe that it is worth the sacrifice to go to a catholic school. I mean public schools can give you the same basic education, but as far as religion goes, there isn't much of anything out there. I believe that students need to be able to go to a school that allows them to express and live out their faith. Kids need to know, especially in these times, that God is there to help both them and their families. Kids need to be able to relate and work for the better, and i believe faith brings that to a person. If kids only see the bad economy, the bad effects, the bad situations, they begin to believe that that is all there is. Also i strongly believe that faith is the center for which everything should be directed to and from. If you sacrifice for your faith now, i'm positive it will repay far more than you gave later.

  19. I personally believe that to help your kids be better educated than the public school kids is a plus. Parents should sacrifice so their kids can strive. I mean honestly? Who doesnt want to see their kid succeed and to give them a catholic faith based education, you are setting them up for the longrun.

  20. I believe a catholic school offers so much more than a public school. I think it is deffinately worth the sacrifice and hardships because you get more than an average education. You get an excellent education and a bond thats kind of like a second family with the student body, faculty, and staff. You get more out of a Catholic school then a public school because the staff wants the absolute best for you as a student and a person and they want whats best for you in the future. So I for sure believe that the Catholic education is worth every penny.
